The news about Professor Kenan is incredibly saddening. I just wanted to share how his teaching impacted me. He taught my intro fiction writing class last year, when I was still a freshman new to UNC and figuring out what I wanted to study. His class was fun, low stress, and a wonderful way to be introduced to the English department. He encouraged us to all tell our stories, that we all had stories to tell. His confidence was inspiring and seeing that helped me feel proud of my own writing, as a person of color. I wouldn’t have minored in creative writing without his class. I thought I’d have the chance to take another class with him and thank him for that.
