“Race, Racism, and Gender in the Twentieth-Century African American Novel” with Dr. Coleman was my very first class here at UNC in August of 2015. I loved this seminar and looked forward to it every week! While I felt very shy as a newcomer to the grad program, Dr. Coleman was such a kind, generous, supportive, and thoughtful person. He made me feel that I belonged here on campus and could contribute valuable ideas to our learning community. These are special qualities worth inspiring in all our students. I’m grateful for Dr. Coleman’s support and hope to emulate his example.

Warmly,

Katharine Henry
