“The North’s Lynch Mobs”: The Afterlife of Segregation

November 8, 2018 @ 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm

The Department of English & Comparative Literature Presents: DR. JENNIFER D. WILLIAMS Professor of English Howard University, “The North’s Lynch Mobs”: The Afterlife of Segregation.

Williams’ book project Intimate Cities: Black Women’s Literature and Urban Segregation explores how an aesthetics of intimacy captures the relations between spatiality, blackness, and gender in black women’s urban literature. Her discussion today connects the viral “#LivingWhileBlack” videos to a broader narrative of surveilling segregated populations.
