Ben Fountain, a native to Chapel Hill, and a UNC-CH alum, returns to UNC on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 to accept his award and give a reading in Moeser Auditorium at 7:30pm. Mr. Fountain will visit with Thomas Wolfe Scholars and a senior honors fiction class and hold a creative writing session with UNC’s creative writing students. Recipient of the PEN/Hemingway Award for Brief Encounters with Che Guevara: Stories and the National Book Critics Circle Award for fiction for his debut novel Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk, Mr. Fountain’s most recent novel is Devil Makes Three.
