Film Series: “Klute” (1971) dir. Alan J. Pakula

October 7 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Join us for a suspenseful celebration of Rick Warner’s new book from Columbia University Press. Dr. Warner will give a short lecture on how his book rethinks conventional notions of suspense in cinema by focusing on questions of atmosphere, mood, and ambient sound more so than plot and character. The lecture will be followed by screenings of three films across three consecutive Mondays: A Man Escaped (dir. Bresson, 1956), Klute (Pakula, 1971), and Under the Skin (Glazer, 2014). Each film relies on forms of suspense that are much subtler than Hitchcockian varieties, but that nevertheless immerse us in an experience tinged with anxiety at each step.
