Amira Hanafi on a Radical Digital Commons

March 17, 2023 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

On Friday, March 17th at 1PM, poet Amira Hanafi will lead a session on her project, The CreaTures Glossary, “a set of tools for giving meaning to a lexicon of terms related to creative practice and transformational change.” An interactive project that calls users to imagine a radical digital commons, the CreaTures Glossary understands language “as a site where displays of power are continuously produced and contested. Rather than produce fixed definitions, the Glossary distributes power to define language throughout the community or collective that interacts with it.” Check out the project and accompanying toolkits on the website here. This event is part of If, Then: Technology and Poetics, a collaborative, public, and interdisciplinary virtual working group and workshop series promoting inclusivity and skills-building in creative computation. Check out our website here and get in touch with Carly Schnitzler (cschnitz@live.unc.edu) or Lillian-Yvonne Bertram (lbertram@northeastern.edu) with any questions or suggestions. Supported by Carolina Seminars and the Digital Literacy and Communications Lab at UNC.
