The B.A. in English & Comparative Literature (ECL) offers students the opportunity to explore their broad interests with the flexibility to pursue the ECL major alongside another major.

The Core:
For The Core of the ECL major, you will take two survey courses and one in-depth course that focuses on either a single author or a single genre.
Survey 1:
Choose from: ENGL 120, ENGL 116, or CMPL 120-124
Survey 2:
Choose from: ENGL 117, ENGL 121, ENGL 122, ENG 124, ENGL 129, ENGL 151, ENGL 152, CMPL 130-134, CMPL 142
Depth:
Choose from: ENGL 223, ENGL 225, ENGL 230, ENGL 235, ENGL 250, ENGL 272, CMPL 220, CMPL 223, CMPL 225
Plus:
- Choose 7 from any of the courses in ENGL or CMPL
(excluding first-year seminars) - Among these 10 required courses:
- 2must be 300-level (writing-intensive)
- 1 must be 400-level (research-intensive)
- At least 3 more must be at/above 200-level
