MFA and Poet
Class of 2012
“I can’t speak highly enough about the English major at UNC. When I started college I had no intention of majoring in English, but I fell in love with the major after taking a course on Renaissance literature, with a special focus on poetry. After graduating from UNC I went on to one of the top Master of Fine Arts programs on a full scholarship; while there I wrote my first book, which will be published in Spring 2018. I’m currently working on translating a book of Spanish poetry, written in fact by one of my UNC professors, as well as teaching a series of online poetry courses. The English major/Creative Writing minor at UNC prepared me simultaneously for grad school, a career as a poet, and a career in business—I can’t imagine a major that would provide better preparation for life after graduation.”
