Assistant Principal, Capstone Scholars Program, University of South Carolina

Class of 2013

“I chose a career in higher education, informed…by my love for the community that I found through pursuing Honors in Creative Writing. My final year of school was galvanic. I learned how to hone my craft—and that such a thing existed—with eight fine poets and an incredible teacher, and it set my momentum for the rest of my working and writing career. All students deserve to find their craft, and a community that can help them nurture it, and I believe that is what the best colleges and universities are for. That is why I advise students now, and that is why I want to work in higher education for the rest of my life as an advisor, professor, writer, or whomever else I become. I cannot thank the department enough for helping me find my start.”
