The department sponsors regular lectures by scholars and artists from North Carolina and across the globe. Regular events include:
- The Thomas Wolfe Prize and Lecture, which takes place each fall around the time of Wolfe's October 3 birthday.
- The Morgan Writer-In-Residence Program, which sponsors lectures, readings, and symposia.
- The Blanche Armfield Poetry Series, which brings prominent American poets to the university for readings.
- The Critical Speakers Program, sponsors lecture by national and Department scholars throughout the year.
- The Lilian R. Furst Forum in Comparative Literature, a lecture series featuring four speakers each semester.
- CoLEAGS, the association of graduate students in English and Comparative literature, sponsors colloquia and lectures throughout the academic year.
- The Latina/o Studies Speakers Series is dedicated to exploring Latina/o Studies as a transdisciplinary endeavor.
