Most of my research involves translating scholarship about writing and its teaching into curricula and teacher training programs. My book, A Rhetoric for Writing Teachers, is now in its fourth edition. Research in progress includes a study of the spoken language teachers use in writing and literature classrooms and a documentary history of student writing at UNC from 1795 to 1870.
