Eric Meckley is a 4th year PhD student who explores the ways race and religion intersect in 19th Century American Literature to shape understandings of American identity. He has come to focus particularly on poetry and fiction depicting the American Civil War from 1860 to World War I. Eric has worked on the UNC Library's Documenting the American South North American Slave Narratives project and this spring began working as a research associate for the Melville Electronic Library.
