Wittig has published on Medieval Latin, Old French, Old English, and Middle English literature.  He has contributed to Sources of Anglo-Saxon Literary Culture and has served on the editorial board of the Society for Early English and Norse Electronic Texts.  His recent publications include an interpretative study of William Langland, studies of the early Latin glossing tradition on Boethius’s Consolation of Philosophy, essays on Chaucer’s varying “discourses” about love, and a fully lemmatized analysis of the language in the three versions of Piers Plowman as presented in the Athlone editions.  Having retired in June 2015, he continues to serve on the editorial board of Studies in Philology.
